LinkedIn Recruiter is a popular platform that most recruiters use to source candidates. When seeking talent online there are filtered searches that are used that could populate your profile as a job seeker (or not) into a search. LinkedIn is the top site to use to connect with Recruiters, HR Pros, Hiring Managers and like-minded individuals.
There are many success stories of individuals being sought out for opportunities that they didn’t even think to apply to or weren’t on their radar. For myself, I was sought out for a Talent Acquisition Recruiter role for a Fortune 100 company that I wouldn’t have thought to apply for. I received an Inbox Message from one of my connections that I haven’t spoken to in years. The timing was perfect because it was at a time in my life where I was out of work, actively looking and not having any luck. Listed below are tips that I recommend as a Recruiter, to job candidates when it comes to LinkedIn.
INCLUDE KEYWORDS
- Intro (In this section of your profile you want to add in past job titles or keywords that best describe you. For example, I have Recruiter, Career Coach, Experienced Resume Writer, Career and Business Skills Trainer listed. When a Recruiter put any of the above keywords into a search my profile will likely come up if searching in my location area)
- About (a brief yet detailed summary of your background should be included here. Use as many keywords from job descriptions in the same field in this section to be on a Recruiters radar)
- Experience (another good area to include keywords)
PROFILE IMAGE
- Not having a profile image will reduce your chances of getting a message or a response if you decide to reach out to someone. If needed, invest in a professional headshot.
OPEN TO WORK
- Letting “Recruiters” or “All LinkedIn Members” know that you are actively looking is one of the top filter searches. Recruiters tend to look for individuals who are most likely to respond and take an opportunity.
BE ACTIVE
- Commenting, Liking and Sharing posts will increase your chances of getting on a Recruiters radar. LinkedIn highlights profiles that are active and most likely to respond to Recruiters. If you get a message (even if not interested) still respond back. The more engaged you are on the platform the higher your chances of having your profile listed as recommended.
COVER LETTER AND RESUME
- If you are actively looking and seeking an opportunity right away I recommend uploading your cover letter and resume to your profile in either JPG or PNG image. Recruiters understand that profiles may not have full updates but can use your resume to help with a decision to reach out.
EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Keep these sections updated at all times. If a specific degree or certification is required for a role a Recruiter will use the degree/certification field as a filter.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- This area will not show up as a filter on LinkedIn Recruiter. However, can help with deciding on whether the Recruiter will think you will be a good fit for the team or company culture.
INTERESTS
- If you have a list of top employers be sure to follow them. If your profile does happen to come up in a search your profile will be listed as a company follower. To a Recruiter, that's a plus.
